Here at Cromer Junior, we have been fundraising for a couple of charitable causes; that are linked to our Aspirations Programme.
We were visited by Leanne from the RSPCA who delivered a whole school and then year group specific) talk about the work the RSPCA does, jobs and careers in the RSPCA and ways we can help animals now. This led to a sponsored litter pick – which each class competitively tried to pick up more litter than the others. In total over 2000 pieces of litter were removed from the school grounds over two weeks! We also dressed up as the animals we would like to protect and Year 3 children made posters and displays to encourage others to put litter in the waste or recycling bin rather than let it damage the environment, especially local animal habitats. The children were particularly concerned that rubbish from our school grounds will blow into the sea, and the damage it can cause to marine life. Altogether we raised £180 for the RSPCA to say thank you for their visit and to support their work.
Jane from the RNLI came and spoke to the whole school about the work of they do and the careers and volunteering opportunities that they have that children may want to consider in the future - which are especially relevant to us as a coastal town. To say thank you for the visit and raise money to support the RNLI’s vital work, each Year group took part in a ‘Walk a Mile or More in Wellies’ around the playground. The children managed to walk between 1 and 5 miles on the day, raising over £1400 in sponsor money. On the day of the walk, the children were visited by Stormy and other RNLI volunteers who were extremely grateful for the effort, enthusiasm, and dedication the children had shown to the fundraising event and said it was an amazing way to celebrate the RNLI’s 200th Birthday!
