Attendance

CJS_2021 (54)

Please ensure that children arrive promptly each day. The school day begins at 8:50am.

It is a regulation that we have to report the number of absences your child has in a year. It is therefore really important that you inform the school daily, by phone, note, email or ‘ParentMail’ giving the reason for absence. The school is striving to achieve an attendance rate of 97% or above. It is therefore important that you try to keep your child’s absence to a minimum in order to give them the maximum opportunity in school. CJS will contact you if there is an unexplained absence. Children who have been sick (vomiting) will not be expected back at school for a period of 48 hours. The DFE no longer expects Headteachers to authorize holidays during term time. If you do however, have a planned absence you should complete the form available from reception. Should you choose to take an unauthorized holiday, for a period of 5 days or more, details are automatically passed to the Local Authority who generally issue a fixed penalty fine (£60 per child per parent, rising to £120 if the fine is not quickly paid). If fines remain unpaid, court action is taken.

Additional information is sent to parents clarifying the ongoing advice from DFE and LA.

All family holidays should be taken during the school holidays. The Government legislation states that from 01.09.2013 “Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Headteachers should determine the number of school days a child can be away fr om school if the leave is granted”.
